Term 4 Goals

My goals for Term 4 are:
Reading, To read more books. I used to read more, but recently I have started reading less, so that is why my goal is to read more.
Writing, To write longer pieces of writing. My writing has started to get shorter and shorter. I have been rushing to try and get work handed in, so that is why my goal is to write longer.
Maths, To get less distracted. During maths I often get distracted often, so my goal is to do my own work and not get distracted.

Term 3 - Week 4

On Monday

I cant remember what we did on Maonday.

On Tuesday

At tech arts we learnt about Asian Music and how its different to music in lots of other countries.

On Wednesday

In the middle block on Wednesday there was a band practice for the festival the next day. In the afternoon I helped set up for the band festival with Hannah.

On Thursday

It was band festival so I was out of class in the first and second block. In the morning I helped Emily take photos. And in the middle block I performed. Our symphonic band got gold, we played Above And Beyond, Bluesville, Skyfall, Frenzy and Rumba.

On Friday

In the morning Mr Membery(principle), the two deans for next year, and three of the four head students came from the college to talk to the year eights about next year. I learnt all about the college and also read the prospectors. In the middle block at tech arts I learnt about Rock n Roll music. I learnt a hound dog be Elvis Presley on the drums and guitar.

Term 3 - Week 3

Tuesday At Tech Arts me and Emma wrote a blues song about being lonely.
Wednesday On Wednesday afternoon we learnt about first aid. I found out how to do CPR.
Thursday At band I found out about Murray's Bay and band festival. In the middle block I had robotics. I had a lot of trouble doing the quiz witch I failed 5 times.
Friday On Friday morning we had Mr McCabe. AT french I learnt about feminine colors and how to say them. In the middle block at tech arts I learnt about music in adds and how to use garage

Term 3 - Week 2

Hello!

On Tuesday we had tech arts first. We learnt about reggae music and Bob Marley. I learnt how to play three little birds on the keyboard and drums because I already knew how to on the guitar. On Wednesday we did maths and I learnt about area. I didn't do team cross country because I was waiting for Mr Standbridge so her could fix my saxophone and also to pick out my piece for the competitions. I picked The Wizard Of Oz. He couldn't fix my instrument so it had to be sent away. On Thursday at band I couldn't play because my octave key is broken. During the middle block I was at robotics. I finally finished expedition Atlantis. I found out that you had to collect all of the colors to finish it.In the afternoon we went to the college expo and found out about the options at TA college. On Friday morning we had french. I learnt how to say what I am wearing and also if clothes are masculine or feminine. At tech arts we learnt about blues music. We learnt about lots of different types of blues songs and also were it originated from. In the afternoon we did cross country.

Term 3 - Week 1

This week we had Mr McCabe because Mrs Crowe had a problem with her ears. We had our first cross country training on Monday.  Just before cross country Mr McCabe taught us about the importance of warming up before you run. On Tuesday I was not at school because I was getting my plates/retainer. We spent a lot of time doing speeches and SLC. On Friday at Tech Arts I learnt about Irish music.

Term 2 Week 6

Hello,

On Monday it was the Queens birthday so there was no school. Because there was no Monday we didn't have an assembly so I couldn't get my silver badge. At food on Tuesday I learnt more about what the healthy cafe is. I spent quite a while looking for a recipe I learnt that a lot of recipes need avocado! I also found out the it is going to be held on Friday the 23rd of June. At band on Thursday I learnt how to play "A London Intrada" and "Moana".

At robotics I learnt how to write java script to code robotics. Previously in robotics we have been using blocks to make the robots move which is easier, but when you are makeing web pages and similar you can use blocks so we are learning how to use java. At the start you have to have "async function startProgram() {" Then in the next line you have // Write code here. In the next lines you write what you want the robot to do. I have been making it go around a maze with Bobby. My first line of coding was "await roll ( 0, 50, 2.1, ) ; " You always have to have a "}" at the very end on the next line, but before that after each line of coding you have to have a semicolon (;) to tell the robot that it is at the end and to start the next line of code. The await at the start means a short delay before it starts to roll( the roll command). The 0, means heading to 0 degrees. The 50 means to go at 50% speed and the 2.1, means to roll for 2.1 seconds. I learnt that the heading, speed and roll time are variables which means that they can change and it won't muck up the rest of it. My end coding looked like:

In the afternoon block Emily, Patrick and me went into the lad to test out some coding software. I learnt about a program called Ruins of Atlantis. It is a program where you code a ship through the ruins of atlatis. On Friday I went to tough guy and gal. I got very muddy and it was a lot of fun.

Term 2 - week 4

On Monday morning we learnt about adjectives. I also re-learnt about different types of characters in reading. On Thursday I went to EPro8 challenge. I also went to this last year where my team (Little Einsteins - Emma, Emily, Bobby, me) were we got 4th. This year we got 1st so we are going onto the semi-finals. You have to complete some challenges witch were pretty hard. At robotics we made tracks that the robots had to drive over. On Friday at french we made a weather wheel. After that at food I learnt how to make butterfly cakes. In the weekend there was a production sleepover where I learnt some new songs and also found out how the play ends.

Week 3 - Term 3

On Wednesday and Thursday I was at band camp. Matamata Intermediate and Cambridge middle schools came. We played about ten songs, two of them were combined with the choir. I learnt how to play all the songs. I played with junior and senior band in the concerts because junior band was struggling. On Friday at french I learnt how to describe someone in french. At food I learnt how to make focaccia bread. During Maori I learnt the meaning of some Maori words and a game.

Week 2 Term 2

Hello!!

Last week I went to NYLD (national young leaders day or New Zealand young leaders day I'm not sure). I was a lot of fun. The main thing of the day was "I am a seed born of greatness." At the end of the day there was a performance by Nomad. On Tuesday we started the morning with science tech where we made sherbert. I learnt about reactions when an acid mixes with a base. At my saxophone lesson I learnt how to play Gridion and Skyfall. On Thrusday morning I had band where we found out that we aren't going to play Moana at band camp but Rolling In The Deep instead. In the middle block I had robotics where I programmed a robot with Bobby to go around a maze. I found that very hard. On Friday we had french where we learnt how to say the weather. We also went over the days of the week and the months. In the middle block we had our last lesson of science. We made soap for mothers day. I learnt how to wrap a present. In the afternoon we had Moari. I learnt the meaning of some new words.

Term 1 Reflection

This term (term 1) has gone really fast. It feels like the year only just started yesterday. I have done so this term. My highlight of it was school camp.

On Tuesday we had a double lesson of tech arts. We also had a lesson on Wednesday and one on Friday. We learnt about solids liquids and gases. We also made soap. I have really enjoyed tech arts this term. I have made a Jersey, beanie and slippers in soft materials. I have learnt lots in science so far. I have done lots of things including making slime and soap. I have learnt things about observations.

In sport I haven't really achieved much but I did make it into the tough guy and girl challenge. We have done lots of training for this. Every Friday sport I have spent training so I really can't wait for the event in Term 2.

In class one of my big achievements was getting class Councillor. I am really proud of my test results as well. We have recently finished number and I only had one thing to work on according to the test and that is estimation, which I made a really dumb mistake on, so if I had been concentrating I probably would have got it right. I haven't been late handing in any work so I am also happy with that.

I have put my name down to do staff room/dishes and chromebook monitor, I am happy with how both these jobs are going, I haven't forgotten to do them very often. I have learn't all the year 7's names and know a little bit about them. At the start of the year they were complete strangers to me.

Wellington - Camp

Last week I went on camp. I don't really have a favorite part of camp.

Some of my favorite things from camp are; Weta workshop, H20 extreme, ONTV, The Zoo, Media Lab. At weta we were shown some things out of movies such as, one of the guns from district 9 and a range of things from the hobbit and lord of the rings. H20 extreme is a water place. I spent most of the time there one the three hydro slides. The was also a wave pool which was lots of fun. At ONTV we made a short news video called "Once Upon A Crime". I was the director. At Media Lab I made a VR (virtual reality) world with Emma. That was a lot of fun, our world was a desert with some mountains. We made this world using some software called Unity. At the zoo we had a short lesson about adaptations which are thing that animals have changed about themselves to be better suited to the wild. After that we walked around the zoo in our parent groups. I really enjoyed the zoo. One of my favorite animals at the zoo was the otters. I also liked the capybaras, the monkeys and the chimps.

We also went to Zealandea which is a sanctuary for birds. We wandered around the sanctuary in three groups. I really seeing watching the Tuatara. At the holocaust centre we learnt things about the holocaust. We also heard a story from a child survivor named Vera.

Overall I really enjoyed Wellington camp. The camp that we stayed at was nice. I am a vegetarian so I didn't eat the food that the adults made I just took m own food. There was a jumping mat that looked a little bit like a giant pillow. I did a couple of front flips, but I didn't land any of them. There was also a trampoline and a playground. There was a volleyball net but I didn't use it. The bus driver, Gale, was very nice. I am very thankful for all the parents and Mrs Crowe for everything they did.

Week 6&7

Sorry I didn't do my week 6 blog post so I am joining it in with week 7's.

In maths I learnt about integers. Integers are things like -7x7=    12÷-3    5+-6     -7-8

Adding Integers:

-12+8=

Subtract the smaller number.

-12-8=-4

Because the larger number (-12) is a negative number the answer is negative.

Subtracting Integers:

11-(-7)=

Convert the smaller number to it's opposite sign. (-7 becomes positive 7)

11-7=

Now add the numbers.

11+7=18

Multiplying Integers:

If the signs are the same (-12 x -2 or 16 ÷ 4) the answer is positive (-12 x -2= 24 or 16 ÷ 4 =4).

If the signs are different (8 x -7 or -24 ÷ 6) the answer is negative (8 x -7 =-56 or -24 ÷ 6= -4).

In writing and reading I have learnt things about the holocaust. On camp we are visiting the holocaust centre. We are going to write a report about the holocaust, so we have been reading about it.

I also learnt in maths about standard form.

Week 5

Hi,
This week in tech arts I learnt how to make a double hood. I have a white hood with green fabric inside. A double is is sewed onto the jersey much the same as a normal hood the mane difference when making a double hood is you have to stitch the two pieces of fabric together before sewing onto the jersey.

In maths learnt or more reminded myself about HCF (highest common factors) and LCM (lowest common multiples). To start with I kept getting confused between factors and multiples, but I no remember that factors are all the numbers that can be multiplied to make the given number. E.g. 12-1,2,3,4,6,12 12x1=12 2x6=12 3x4=12. Multiples are numbers that are multiplied by the given number. E.g. 12- 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84, 96, 108, 120 Multiples go up forever so that is why I only listed the first ten.

In writing I found out even more about the leaning tower of Pisa. I have written about a page which is about how long it needs to be but my paragraphs are very uneven.

Week 4

This Monday I found out I am room three class counselor! At assembly I got a badge that says Te Awamutu Intermediate school Student Counselor. On stage the house captains were announced while the counselors were still on stage and when I was clapping my badge fell off... oops.

On Tuesday I cut out my design for my sweatshirt. This took a lot of patience. I then sewed it on wrong so I learnt how to fix it.

During maths I did factors, HCF, LCF, and prime factors. I had forgotten what a composite number is so I had to re-learn that and also haw to use a factor tree which took me a while.

We have to write an explanation about one of the wonders of the world there are 7 wonders of the, Medieval world, Modern world, Ancient world and the Natural world. I am writing about the Leaning Tower of Pisa. I learnt that the tower is a bell tower for one of the cathedrals. It has seven bells each tuned to a note of the musical scale. It used to have the title of building on the biggest lean when it was 5.5 degrees off true but after some builders straightened the dirt underneath it it is not only 3.7 degrees of true. From the information I found out about the leaning tower of Pisa I have only written the facts I find most interesting because if I wrote everything I would be here all day writing them out!!!!

On Friday I went to leadership day at Albert park. This was run by team energize or sport Waikato. I learnt a lot of important qualities that a leader has to have.

Week 3

Hello,

I finished my visual language on Tuesday.

Visual language is a collage about your past present and what you want for your future. With an A3 piece of card or paper you cut out pictures and words from magazines and also print out some. Then you glue them all over the paper. We then had to write about what is on the board and glue that onto the back. It is still weird with out last years year eights but the year sevens are nice. On Wednesday I found out that I have been selected to be part of the tough guy and gal challenge. This is pretty much a mud run. You have to crawl through mud and I think it will be very fun. I have a few friends that are also taking part in this event. I wont be until term two though. On Friday in fabric I had to cut out my jersey. I found that very difficult but I finished in the end. For Friday sport I had training for tough guy gal challenge and I think that it is definitely going to be a "challenge"!

Start Of Year Reflection

  

I still cant believe its 2017 already!! Last year went so fast. This year started on Wednesday 1st of February. We started off with a powhiri were we welcomed the year sevens and any new year eights. That afternoon there was a short assembly before the school was split into three groups, cyclists walkers and busses. These groups were to tell the school the rules on what you can and cant do after school. During the assembly before this Emily, Emma and I went into the office to look after it while the office ladies talked at assembly. I learnt how to answer the phone if someone rings and what to say when someone comes in. On Thursday morning there was senior band. The band looks so small with out all of last years year eights. After morning tea some of the school (including room 3) had Selma testing. I scored 96. Waitangi day was Monday 6 of February so there was no school that day. Tuesday started with an assembly so we missed out on tech arts. We did tech on Friday though and that was very fun. The year eights are doing fabric and next week we get to start making our jerseys!
